Highway Line Dancers
Description
Music and dancing have inspired me since I was a child.
First it was jazz dance, then later oriental dance. In addition to line dancing, I have also been passionate about salsa, bachata and kizomba for many years.
I discovered line dancing in January 2010. I was looking for a dance that could also be danced without a partner. I had always liked country music and so I signed up for a workshop with Bea Huwiler (Crazyfoot) in Nebikon. I learned over 200 choreographies with great enthusiasm (many of them alone at home). In the meantime, I have stopped counting the dances I have learned. And I have forgotten many of them again. But my favorite dances and the latest choreographies are reliably stored in my legs.
I was often asked to teach at various events. And so, in summer 2011, I decided to start teaching myself. In 2012, I completed my teacher training with the Swiss Linedance Association SCWDA.
Line dancing fits in very well with today's world. At the numerous country nights in the region, young and old meet up to dance together. It is a type of social dance where everyone dances on their own. The group forms several lines and dances the fixed, repetitive step sequences in synchronization.
Each piece of music - often from the country genre - has its own choreography.
Linedance is a young dance style that has only been danced as we know it today since around 1980. Linedance originated in the USA. It is therefore probably the European folk dances of those who emigrated there that can be regarded as the roots of line dancing. Initially, line dancing was in no way closely associated with country music. With "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus, line dancing became synonymous with country music. This influence lasted for quite a while, but has diminished considerably since the end of the 90s.
In Switzerland today, the majority of people still dance to country music. But many dances from other music genres (pop, hip hop, Latin, current charts) are also very popular.
This mixture is reflected in my courses, so that I teach about 70% country choreography and 30% other styles.
