Why should you regularly maintain your dance shoes?

Dance shoes should be regularly cared for because dirt, moisture, and abrasion impair their functionality and lifespan. Well-maintained shoes offer better grip, increase safety while dancing, and prevent injuries. Your dance shoes aren't a fashion statement—they're your most important tool for dancing. They're your "sports equipment," as we at [company name] call it. Dancing Queens say. And as with any sports equipment, it must be well maintained to function optimally.

All the advantages of well-maintained dance shoes at a glance

  • Optimal traction through clean soles
  • More stability during rapid movements
  • hygiene by preventing odor formation
  • Longer lifespan of the material
  • Reduced risk of injury through reliable support

Proper care extends the lifespan of your dance shoes

Proper care of your dance shoes will make them last longer, protect your joints, and provide better grip. Otherwise, the soles will lose their grip over time, the uppers will become dirty or brittle, and unpleasant odors will develop if you don't regularly clean and air them out.

1. Clean dance shoes – inside and out

Depending on the material of your shoes, the cleaning tips will vary slightly. Ours Dancing Queen Shoes consist of high-quality leather, imitation leather, linen or satin.

For leather or imitation leather models:

Simply wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth. For added shine and suppleness, you can use a neutral leather care product or leather balm – but please use it sparingly and without harsh cleaning agents.

For textiles (e.g., linen dance sneakers):

Dab with a mild soapy solution, do not rub. Then let it air dry, but not directly on the radiator.

The following applies to the inside of the shoe:

It's best to air out your dance shoes after every use. Never leave them in their bag overnight – this promotes odors and bacteria. An antibacterial shoe spray can freshen them up. This is especially helpful if you wear your shoes barefoot.

2. Cleaning satin dance shoes – please use “velvet gloves”

Satin looks elegant, but it's particularly delicate. Therefore, the rule here is: clean only the affected area carefully and gently. A lint-free cloth, lightly dampened with water and a drop of mild shampoo, works best. Don't rub – just dab the stain gently. Afterwards, let your satin dance shoes air dry completely – never on a radiator! Heat can loosen the glue and change the shape of the shoe.

3. Roughen the soles of your dance shoes – for perfect grip

Many dance shoes – especially classic models like our salsa dance shoes, standard dance shoes for men and women, tango shoes, and many more – have a suede sole. This offers optimal grip while still allowing for good gliding. However, over time it becomes smooth – dust, sweat, and contact with the floor smooth the leather.

What to do? Roughen up your dance shoes!

Use a special roughening brush (e.g., with wire bristles) and always work in one direction. This will "open up" the fibers of the sole and restore its original grip.

Our tipTake a small brush with you to the party or to the gym. A quick brushing now and then makes all the difference.

4. Clean the soles of your dance shoes – depending on the sole type

At Dancing Queens You'll find different sole types, which also differ in their care requirements. If you're unsure which sole type is used in your model, check our product page or ask our team via WhatsApp – we're always happy to help!

5. Extra tips from the Dancing Queens Community

  • Let your shoes air out well after every dance session – remove any insoles (if present) and air them out too.
  • Loosen the lacing – this protects the material when putting the garment on and taking it off.
  • Use heel protectors for heels and dance shoes – this will prevent the heels from wearing down too quickly.
  • Use a shoehorn – it's smart, not old-fashioned. Your shoes will stay beautiful and in good shape for much longer.
  • Change your shoes regularly – especially if you dance often. Your shoes need a break!
